Munich is the capital of Bavaria (Bayern). Of interest in Munich are:
° the Marienplatz, with the neo-Gothic Alte Rathaus (Old City Hall) and the Glockenspiel, which plays at 11 a.m. and 12 noon
° the Frauenkirche, a Gothic church often seen in pictures of Munich
° Karlstor and Sendlinger Tor, medieval gates
° the Residenz, a large palace and museum
° the Altepinakothek, a museum of the old European Masters
° beer gardens, when the weather is warmer (we were there in February) and beer halls, any time of year: it is common to go to the Englischer Garten and try beer gardens there, and there are many beer halls such as the Augustiner Bierhalle, not far from Karlstor
° nearby Munich is the old Dachau camp, with camp relics, a memorial and a museum
