Praha: Nove Mesto (New Town)
The part of Prague that is called Nove Mesto has its share of beautiful and interesting buildings. Some are shown here-
The National Theater is perched on the Vltava. It hosts many cultural events. Across the street from the National Theater is the Kavarna Slavia, a favorite place for Praguers to enjoy coffee, ice cream or drinks. Also, the Ostroff Bar, on Ostroff Island- accessible by the bridge (most Legii) offers a great view of the Vltava and the National Theater.
Heading south from the National Theater on the street next to the river (Masarykovo nabrezi), at the next bridge you found what Praguers call the Dancing House (Tanecni Dum)- Anglophones have named it the Fred and Ginger Building. If you look at the picture you can pick out the shapes of Fred and Ginger. Also nearby is the building that was the Goethe Insitute and the Sitek, or Water Tower.
An especially famous and crowded area of Nove Mesto - crowded by tourists and locals alike - is Vaclavske Namesti, better known in English as Wenceslas Square. It is actually more of a boulevard, with the National Museum at one end. The "Square" is lined with shops and cafes. Near Christmas, artisans are allowed to set up stalls here and sell their wares- this is a good time to find svarene vino, or mulled wine.
