Prague Castle (Prazsky Hrad)
Perched above the Vltava is the Prazsky Hrad (Prague Castle) of the Hradcany (castle buildings). It does serve as a seat of government even today - the President's office is here - and has since its origination in the 9th century.
The guard changes once an hour, although you really only see a few guards marching to and from their posts. At noon, however, their is supposed to be a small parade with brass music.
A 120 KC ticket will allow you to visit St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, and the Powder Tower. The gothic cathedral of St. Vitus is a landmark of Prague. The foundation of this cathedral was first laid in 1344, but it was not completed until 1929.
The castle offers some great views of Prague itself. Be sure to walk around the gardens and look out over the city.
