Near Rome: Castelgandalfo and Frascati

There is, of course, some beautiful countryside around Rome. Frequently mentioned are Tivoli- a Roman resort town and home to the beautiful villas of Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este- and Ostia Antica, an ancient port city. We had the pleasure, however, of seeing the beautiful Campagna Romana of Castelgandolfo and Frascati, off the Old Appian Way. At Castelgandolfo is the summer residence of the Pope. Castelganalfo is set in the hills overlooking Lake Albano. Frascati is also home to Patrician summer manors. Frascati is known for its white Castelli wine.
