The High Tatras, Slovakia

The High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry) are in northwest Slovakia, near the border with Poland. You can take a train into one of the main towns, Strba or Poprad, and from there take an electric train up to one of the resort towns. The Tatras are known for their beauty. The area is popular for skiing (mainly downhill, but snowboarding as well as cross-country skiing are also possible) in the winter and hiking and climbing in the summer. We stayed in Strske Pleso, with nearby peaks Predne Solisko and Popraske Pleso reaching heights of 2093 m and 2655 m, respectively.
